children & youth

You belong. You are loved. You can love.

It takes a church to raise a child. Christianity isn’t “taught” as much as it is “caught.” We believe that faith is a life-long journey of learning together, and we provide our children with an age appropriate place to explore their faith and learn about God’s love.

Children have an innate sense of wonder, mystery, and openness to God. Our role is to cultivate that wonderment by providing a fun and trusting environment for children to learn the great stories of our faith and explore how to apply these lessons to their own lives. Our hope is that this is just the beginning of a lifetime of learning and growing in faith, wonder and understanding.

church school

On Sunday mornings children join us in the sanctuary for the first part of the worship service, when they participate in the opening songs and prayers and gather with the minister for a brief “children’s sermon.” They then go to Church School classes for the remainder of the worship hour.

our goals

To empower all ages to be transformed in Christ as they:

explore meaning and mystery in the Bible;

celebrate in worship, sacraments, education, and service;

engage in ministries of love, justice, and witness;

and live in inclusive communities of faith shaped and led by the Holy Spirit.

infants to age 4

Nursery care is provided for children from infancy up to age four.

age 4-6 grade

We offer a caring, supportive Church School program open to children 4 years old through 6th grade. Our classes are led by enthusiastic church members who love what they do.

baptism & confirmation

baptism

The Pastor is happy to talk with you about planning a baptism for your child.   You do not need to be a member of this church to have your child baptized here, but we do expect you to be an active participant in the life of this congregation.   Baptisms are held during a regular Sunday morning worship service and involve a covenant between the parents and the congregation to raise the child in the Christian faith.

confirmation

When children reach the age of 12 or 13 or older, those who were baptized as infants or young children are offered the opportunity to “confirm” their faith and join the church as full members.  The Pastor will meet with the individual or group over the course of several months to help them explore their faith at a deeper leve in preparation for a service of confirmation.
